Let me tell you a deep, dark secret.
I don’t fixate on design trends.
In fact, my design philosophy is the antithesis of trendy. It’s fueled by...what works. Pragmatism.
I know. Disgusting.
But for real — I believe in design that actually does what it’s supposed to do. Like a hammer. Or a stapler. Or a really good burrito. Great design produces something that functions. Something that communicates. Something that serves the user instead of stroking the ego of the person who made it.
Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate beauty. I’ve flirted with design for design’s sake—but that path leads to madness. It’s all vibes and aesthetic with no use case. It’s like giving someone a Shakespearean monologue when they asked for directions to Primanti’s (a Pittsburgh deep cut, IYKYK).
So, to answer the question, “What is my design style?” My design style is the one that makes sense for the client and the moment. The one that’s going to perform well. I am of the persuasion that those silly guys over at the Bauhaus were onto something when they claimed that “form follows function.”
Design is like a well-adjusted middle child (thanks, Mom and Dad). It’s not desperate to be noticed. Not afraid to be invisible. It’s competent. Helpful. Balanced. An unsung hero.
I’m here to build things that work.
